About this pattern
This set covers every seat in the room: an L-shaped sectional with a main panel and chaise, an armchair, a round side table topper, two square pillow covers, and a bolster. Every surface repeats the same four-row popcorn block, two rows of staggered popcorn stitches sandwiched between plain single crochet rows, so once that block is memorized, the only real decision left is how many times to repeat it before moving on to the next piece.
Shaping stays minimal since panels are worked straight and joined afterward, but slow down at the seams. The Seat and Back Panels meet along their full width, and Arm Flaps attach to the short edges with WS-together slip stitch seams that need to lie flat under the yarn's weight. Gauge matters most here, since a swatch that runs even slightly tight or loose throws off every panel enough to leave the finished cover fitting the furniture badly.
- Work a gauge swatch first, since the popcorn stitch pattern needs to match exactly before cutting into 3,200 yards of yarn.
- Build the Back Panel and Seat Panel separately, repeating the four-row popcorn block until each piece reaches its finished length.
- Work the Arm Flaps and chaise section in the same popcorn repeat so every panel reads as one continuous fabric.
- Join the Seat Panel to the Back Panel with a slip stitch seam worked through both layers using Color A.
- Attach the Arm Flaps to the short edges of the joined panels using the same WS-together slip stitch seam.
- Move on to the smaller pieces, the table cover, pillow covers, and bolster, once the sectional sections are finished.
What goes wrong
- Skipping the gauge swatch Chain 21, work 20 rows in the popcorn stitch pattern, and block before measuring the center 14 stitches and 16 rows. A cover even 10% off gauge will not fit the furniture correctly.
- Losing track of the popcorn offset Row 1 starts the popcorn placement one stitch in, and Row 3 shifts it by two stitches to stagger the grid. Mark right-side rows with a stitch marker so the offset does not get mixed up mid-panel.
- Uneven tension across wide panels Use the full set of at least 12 stitch markers to section off repeats as the panel widens, since inconsistent tension is exactly what pushes this project from easy to intermediate.
- Seaming with right sides together Every join in this set is worked with wrong sides together. Seaming with right sides together instead puts the slip stitch seam on the visible face and throws off where the pom-pom trim sits.
Yarn, hook and the rest

Yarn Requirements
- Approximately 3,200 yards of worsted weight yarn in Powder Blue (Color A)
- Approximately 200 yards of worsted weight yarn in White (Color B) for pillow borders
- Approximately 50 yards of white pom-pom trim ribbon with 1 inch diameter pom-poms
Recommended Yarn Options
- Lion Brand Pound of Love in "Pastel Blue" works beautifully. This 100% acrylic yarn comes in large 16 ounce skeins of approximately 1,020 yards each. You’ll need about 3 skeins for Color A and a partial skein in White for Color B. It’s machine washable and holds the popcorn texture really well.
- Caron Simply Soft in "Soft Blue" is another excellent choice with a gentle drape perfect for furniture covers. Each skein contains approximately 315 yards, so plan for about 11 skeins in Color A and 1 skein in White.
- Red Heart Super Saver in "Soft Blue" offers the most budget-friendly option. At approximately 364 yards per skein, you’ll need about 9 skeins for Color A and 1 skein in White.
Hook and Tools
- US size J-10 (6.0 mm) crochet hook
- Measuring tape
- Two 18 inch square pillow inserts
- One bolster pillow insert, 20 inches long by 7 inches diameter
- Yarn needle for weaving ends
- Scissors
- At least 12 stitch markers

Join
Step 1Lay the Sofa Back Panel flat with RS facing up. The long edge at the bottom will attach to the long top edge of the Seat Panel.
Step 2Join Seat Panel to Back Panel: Hold both panels with WS together. Align the 294-stitch edges. Using Color A and a yarn needle, work a slip stitch seam through both layers along the full edge.
Step 3Join Arm Flaps: Align each arm flap to the short edges of your joined back and seat panels. With WS together, slip stitch seam along the full edge.
Step 4The resulting cross-shaped panel drapes over your sofa with the back panel hanging behind, the seat panel lying flat, and the arm flaps folding over each arm.

Finish
- Weave in every yarn tail along the panel edges before seaming, since loose ends get trapped once slip stitch seams close.
- Block each panel and pillow piece with rust-proof pins to the swatch gauge before joining, since distortion at this stage affects the fit of the whole set.
- Insert the pillow forms and bolster insert, then hand-sew the white pom-pom trim along the outer edges with a sewing needle and white thread.
Bigger or smaller
- Smaller
- Work fewer repeats of the four-row popcorn block before fastening off each panel. This shortens the piece while keeping the same gauge and hook, so proportions across the set stay consistent.

FAQs
Asked and answered
These answers came from whoever first published the pattern, kept word for word.
Why is gauge such a big deal for this pattern?
The notes are explicit that a cover even 10% off gauge will not fit the furniture correctly. Working the full swatch, chain 21 stitches for 20 rows, and blocking before measuring the center 14 stitches and 16 rows catches problems before a full panel is on the hook.
Can a different yarn than Pound of Love be used?
Yes. Caron Simply Soft and Super Saver are both listed as substitutes, with skein counts already converted, about 11 skeins of Caron or 9 skeins of for Color A. Match the J-10 (6.0 mm) hook and the gauge swatch to whichever yarn is chosen.
Does the whole set really take 48 to 68 hours?
That is the estimate for every piece combined, sofa cover, armchair cover, table cover, two pillow covers, and the bolster. Smaller pieces move much faster on their own, with the round table cover taking 3 to 5 hours and each pillow cover taking 3 to 4 hours.
Is it possible to make just one piece instead of the full set?
Each piece in this collection is built from the same popcorn stitch pattern and stands on its own. Starting with the table cover or a single pillow cover is a reasonable way to test gauge and technique before committing to a full sofa cover.
