About this pattern
Alice is a frog doll built from four main pieces: a Body worked over 18 rounds, a Head at 17 rounds, a Skirt of 5 rounds, and a pair of Legs at 10 rounds each. Arms, Eyes, and Pupils round out the small-parts list. Every piece works in a continuous spiral, so there is no joining or turning chain to track — just steady rounds and a stitch count to check at the end of each one.
The Body starts flat with a chained oval base before rounding out, the same shaping trick used again for the Legs. The Skirt is picked up later from the front loops left open on the Body, worked in half double crochet instead of single crochet for a fuller drape. Slow down at that pickup round and at the Body's increase rounds, where tight tension keeps the fiberfill from peeking through the stitches.
- Leave a length of pink yarn resting at the Body for a few rounds before it is needed again.
- Pick up the pink yarn later and work sl st into the front loops to start the Skirt.
- Shape the Legs from a chained oval base, then narrow them with paired decrease rounds.
- Sew the Head, Arms, and Legs onto the Body once all the pieces are stuffed and ready.
What goes wrong
- Losing the round in continuous spiral Drop a stitch marker into the first stitch of every round and move it up as work progresses. Without it, the spiral drifts and the stitch counts stop matching the pattern.
- Skirt picked up in the wrong loop Work the Skirt's starting round into the front loops of the Body round specified, not both loops. Picking up the full stitch changes the fold line and leaves the back loops stranded.
- Understuffed legs before attaching Stuff each Leg firmly before starting the thread joint to the Body. Adding stuffing after the join is started is far harder and often leaves soft spots.

Join
Step 1Sew the Head onto the top of the Body , aligning the flat seam of the head with the neck opening. Use the long yarn tail and a whipstitch for a firm join.
Step 2Sew the Arms onto the Body between Rnds 21 and 22, one on each side, with the flat closed edge flush against the body. Use the long yarn tails.
Step 3Attach the Legs using a thread joint: thread the long yarn tail of one leg through a tapestry needle. Pass the needle through the side of the body between Rnds 22 and 23, then out the other side. Thread through the top of the second leg, pass back through the body, and secure both legs tightly so they hang evenly. The yarn tail of the second leg should be tucked inside it. Knot securely and hide all ends inside the body.
Step 4Weave in all remaining yarn ends.

Finish
- Weave in every color change on the Body and Skirt as it goes, since green, white, and pink swap back and forth across the rounds.
- Stuff the Body, Head, and Legs firmly with fiberfill before closing, packing evenly so the tight tension holds its shape without lumps.
- Whipstitch the Head onto the Body at the neck opening, then attach the Arms and Legs at their marked rounds using the long tails left for that purpose.
Bigger or smaller
- Larger
- Move up to a heavier yarn with a larger hook while keeping the same round counts on the Body, Head, Legs, and Skirt. The doll grows proportionally without changing any stitch counts.
- Smaller
- Drop to a lighter weight yarn with a smaller hook, again working the same number of rounds throughout. Every piece shrinks together, keeping the frog's proportions intact.

FAQs
Asked and answered
These answers came from whoever first published the pattern, kept word for word.
Why does the pink yarn get left mid-Body and picked up later?
The pink tail is set aside at the Body rounds where the Skirt will eventually attach, saving a color change and extra ends to weave. It waits there until the Skirt round instructs picking it back up into the front loops.
What size hook is needed for the fine thread details?
The eyes and pupils use fine fingering-weight thread, which calls for the smaller B-1 hook rather than the main E-4 hook used on the Body. Keeping the two hook sizes separate keeps the small features crisp.
In what order should the pieces be assembled?
Attach the Head to the Body first at the neck opening, then add the Arms at their marked rounds, followed by the Legs using a thread joint. Eyes and Pupils are sewn on separately once the Head is in place.
