About this pattern
This monkey comes together from eight separate pieces, each with its own round count to check off: 5 rounds for each ear, 6 for the muzzle, a single round for the bow, 25 for the head, 14 for each leg, 11 for each arm, 25 for the body, and 6 for the dress. Working through the list piece by piece keeps a big project from feeling like one long unbroken round count.
Gauge isn't critical for this project, but keep your tension tight enough that the fiberfill doesn't show through the finished fabric.
- Crochet the small pieces first — ears, muzzle and bow — to get quick wins before the bigger parts.
- Work the head in joined rounds to start, then move into a continuous spiral partway through.
- Build the body as a matching continuous spiral so its shaping lines up with the head.
- Crochet the legs and arms as separate pieces, ready to be seamed on once the body is done.
- Join the dress in worked rounds rather than a spiral, keeping its shaping distinct from the body beneath.
- Wrap and cinch the bow last, then sew it in place using its own working tails.
What goes wrong
- Cutting the bow tails too short Leave the full 20-25 cm tail at the start and don't cut the working tail after cinching — both are needed to wrap the center and sew the bow to the head.
- Sewing arms and legs at the wrong rounds Count up to rounds 6-7 for the legs and rounds 27-28 for the arms before whipstitching them on, and check the inner arm faces forward before securing.

Join
Step 1Sew the head to the body, aligning the center fronts. Before closing the seam fully, push extra fiberfill into any gaps at the neck joint to keep the head upright and firm.
Step 2Sew the legs to the body between Rnds 6 and 7, with 1–2 sc of space between them at the center front. Use the yarn tail and a whipstitch around the top flat edge of each leg.
Step 3Sew the arms to the body between Rnds 27 and 28, one on each side. Position them so the inner arm faces forward.
Step 4If making the tail, sew it to the center back of the body at a comfortable height.
Step 5Sew or glue the button to the center front of the dress.
Step 6Weave in all remaining ends.

Finish
- Weave in every color-change end from the head, ears and muzzle before assembly so no tails show through the seams.
- Stuff the head and body firmly, pushing extra fiberfill into the neck joint before the seam closes fully so the head stays upright.
- Set the eyes with strong thread to pull the indentation, then embroider the eyelids, lashes and nostrils in black embroidery thread before sewing on the dress and bow.
Bigger or smaller
- Larger
- Swap the fingering weight Yarn A and B for a heavier weight and step up from the US B-1 / 2.25 mm hook to a larger one, which scales every piece up without changing the round count.
- Smaller
- Stay with the fingering weight yarns and the US B-1 / 2.25 mm hook exactly as given, since dropping hook size further will tighten the fabric and shrink the finished doll.

FAQs
Asked and answered
These answers came from whoever first published the pattern, kept word for word.
Do the ears and legs get made twice?
Yes, both the ears and legs are worked twice each, following the same round-by-round instructions given once in the pattern. The arms are also made in a matching pair.
Why are some head rounds joined instead of spiraled?
Rounds 1 through 8 of the head are worked as joined rounds, each starting with a chain 1, while the rest of the head continues in a continuous spiral. The dress follows the same joined-round method throughout.
How is the bow finished off?
After the single round of double treble petals and a chain 1, both yarn tails are wrapped around the bow's center and tied to cinch it. Those same tails are left uncut so they can sew the bow onto the head later.
