About this pattern

This keychain builds from a single body worked over 8 rounds, starting from a magic ring and growing outward before settling into straight rounds. It stays small and portable, making it a fast pick for a first amigurumi project or a between-project palate cleanser. The single ear piece adds only 3 more rounds, so the whole make stays light on both yarn and time.

  1. Start the body with a magic ring and build outward through a run of increase rounds.
  2. Stuff the body before it closes so the shape holds without gaps.
  3. Work the ear from a magic ring, increasing partway through in black or brown yarn.
  4. Change to yellow mid-ear and finish with a few plain rounds before fastening off.
  5. Sew the ear onto the body and glue on the eyes and mouth to complete the face.

What goes wrong

  • Loose magic ring center Pull the starting tail tight before the first sl st so no hole shows at the center of the body or ear.
  • Uneven increase spacing Count stitches at the end of each increase round and match the totals given before moving to the next round.
  • Underfilled body before closing Add stuffing gradually while the last rounds are still open rather than trying to pack it in through a small closed gap.

FAQs

Asked and answered

These answers came from whoever first published the pattern, kept word for word.

What yarn weight works best for this keychain?

A worsted weight yarn paired with a matching hook size keeps the stitches tight enough to hold stuffing without gaps. Any weight can work as long as the hook size is adjusted to suit.

How much stuffing does the body need?

Enough to fill the shape firmly without stretching the stitches apart, added in stages while the top rounds are still open. Check the shape from the side before closing the last round.

Can the second ear be made from the same steps?

Yes, the same 3-round sequence and color change are repeated to make the matching second ear. Both are sewn on before the eyes and mouth are added.
