About this pattern

This plush breaks into seven pieces, each one a short, checkable block. The legs take seven rounds apiece, the body climbs through fifty-two, the white belly spans eighteen, the ears work up in thirteen, the tail spirals through twenty-six, the arms close out in twenty-five, and the tiny crocheted eyes finish in seven. Every piece is worked in continuous spiral, so a stitch marker at round one is the only thing standing between a tidy pile of parts and a lost place in the round count.

The leg toes start as a bobble cluster worked in white before the gray takes over, a small detail that sets the tone for the piece as fussy in the first few rounds and forgiving after. Round 4 of the body is the one to slow down for, since both legs join into the body wall there and need their toes facing forward before the stitch is worked through both layers at once.

This pattern uses US crochet terminology and is worked in continuous spirals throughout, with no joining or turning unless noted. Gauge is approximately 14 sc × 16 rows = 10 cm × 10 cm with YarnArt Dolce and a 4 mm hook; gauge is not critical, but consistent tension will affect the final size.

  1. Crochet two legs in gray with a bobble toe cluster worked first in white yarn.
  2. Build the body from a flat start, increasing until the legs join into the body wall.
  3. Crochet a separate white belly panel to stitch onto the front of the body later.
  4. Shape two ears and a tail while the body pieces are already finished and set aside.
  5. Crochet two arms last, sized to attach cleanly to either side of the finished body.
  6. Finish by embroidering the face, fingers, and chevron markings once every piece is assembled.

What goes wrong

  • Losing track of the spiral Place a stitch marker at round 1 and move it up every round, since there is no join or turn to mark the start.
  • Joining legs with toes misaligned Position both legs so the toes face forward before working round 4 of the body, since that round joins body and leg stitches at once.
  • Stuffing only at the very end Add stuffing gradually as each piece closes rather than packing it all in during the final rounds.

Join

Step 1Sew the belly onto the front of the body between rounds 7 and 34, centering it carefully.

Step 2Attach the arms at round 34 on either side of the body.

Step 3Embroider the fingers on the hands using black embroidery thread.

Step 4Sew the ears onto the top of the head, spacing them evenly.

Step 5Attach the tail to the back of the body, roughly between rounds 7 and 12 (or slightly higher based on preference).

Step 6Sew the eyes onto the face, centering them symmetrically on the head.

Step 7Embroider the face details — nose, mouth, eyebrows, and whiskers — using black thread. Use gray thread to embroider the chevron markings on the belly.

Finish

  • Weave in ends from each separate piece — legs, ears, tail, and arms — before any assembly begins.
  • Stuff firmly and gradually as each piece closes, keeping the body dense enough to hold its rounded shape.
  • Sew on the belly, ears, tail, and arms with a tapestry needle, then embroider the face and chevron markings last.

Bigger or smaller

Larger
Move up to a thicker yarn than YarnArt Dolce with a larger hook than 4 mm, which scales every round and pushes the finished size past 45 cm.
Smaller
Drop to a finer yarn with a smaller hook than 4 mm, tightening the stitches and shrinking the finished size below 45 cm.

FAQs

Asked and answered

These answers came from whoever first published the pattern, kept word for word.

What yarn should be used for this pattern?

The main pieces use YarnArt Dolce in gray with a small amount of white for the belly, worked with a 4 mm hook. Any similar worsted-weight yarn that gives roughly 14 sc by 16 rows per 10 cm will hold the same proportions.

How is the continuous spiral tracked without joining each round?

A stitch marker placed at the first stitch of round one and moved up every round marks the start point. Since the pattern works in continuous spiral with no joining or turning, that marker is the only way to know where each round begins.

Where do the belly, arms, and tail attach on the body?

The belly is sewn onto the front between rounds 7 and 34, the arms attach at round 34 on either side, and the tail goes on the back roughly between rounds 7 and 12. Centering the belly and spacing the arms evenly keeps the finished plush symmetrical.
